New Smyrna Beach Area - Indian River Lagoon - Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

May 1, 2021

Summer is almost here. Been a great spring. I’m super busy with every week filled. I only have a couple days left open in May...June through August is filling quick. Summer is gonna be slammed! So don’t wait last minute to schedule or it’s not gonna happen.

Been all about the snook fishing around the northern half of Mosquito Lagoon the last 2 months. Spending more time targeting big redfish near Ponce Inlet as we start May. Mosquito Lagoon is gonna give up the best big trout fishing of the year during the next two months. Top chance of the year for big gator trout approaching 10 pounds of better. Should be catching some great snook when fishing around New Smyrna Beach and Port Orange the next couple months as well some giants over 35 inches and lot of others 20-30 inches. The next 6 months are my favorite of the year with some truly epic fishing and monster catches!

It’s been the best snook fishing around Central Florida in history. The numbers are amazing and were starting to catch some great fish approaching 40 inches. The past couple months we pretty much averaged 10-15 snook a day on my charters. Live bait and lures both producing well on area shorelines and docks. Big schools have broken up and snook are now widely scattered all around Ponce Inlet, New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and Oak Hill. Catching will remain pretty good all summer. Snook season closes end of May, so catch and release all rest of the summer.

Redfish are pretty scattered in the Mosquito Lagoon area. We are picking some up here and there live bait fishing. Have spent some days sight casting redfish on shorelines with lures. Big bull redfish over 20 pounds are starting to school up as the summer spawning season arrives. We’ll catch a few each day over next couple months and that’ll increase to dozens a day by the end of summer. The next 6 month are best of the year to catch a redfish over 20 pounds when visiting the New Smyrna Beach area.

It’s also the peak time of year to target trophy size specked trout. May and June annually give up the biggest trout of the year in the Mosquito Lagoon area with giants approaching 10 pounds of better. We’ll catch bunches of 4-5 pound speckled trout and too many to count smaller trout under 20 inches. Most days we fish for trout yield 15-20 per day which is great catching for everyone. Pretty much strictly fishing live bait for trout next few months.

Seeing lots of tarpon starting to show up in a few areas in the channels, creeks and inlet. Looks this year could be promising and hopefully as good as last year with lots of tarpon and lots of bites. Tarpon will get a lot more active in May and June and be ready to bite a little better. Pretty tough fishery though and you gotta be committed to giving it lot of time for maybe a bite or two.

Central Florida gonna be pretty crowded and busy the year. Only have 4 days left open for May and June already half way full. July and August are two busiest months of year. Don’t wait to get on my calendar! Limited availability so don’t schedule last minute. Text me or call me at 386-212-4931 or even send me an email to secure a date.
